County Jail And One State Prison - 954 Words

For this paper I looked into many different Ohio county jails and many different state prisons and was amazed at how little if any information was given about these facility’s from everything from the organizational structure, chain of command to the classifications of inmates, to the fact that there is no mention of any problems inside these facility’s which I find comical considering I’ve done county time and have seen and lived firsthand the day to day problems that accurse at the county level and know a few who have gone to prison and have talked about the problems there. So to fulfill the requirements of this assignment I have to write about two separate facility’s so I choose one county jail and one state prison to write about. The first place I’ve decided to write about is the franklin county correction center which is run by the franklin county Sherriff’s office. This is the first stop for anyone who is arrested for any reason in Fran klin County. Franklin county has this listed under there department structure as corrections division and there are two facility’s labeled corrections center one and corrections center two. The combined daily population is on average 1,000-2,000 inmates. Franklin County Corrections Center I, 370 S. Front St. is a 643 bed maximum security facility. We were being evacuated. Team Olympus grunts were everywhere attacking any that tried to stay or fight. Most had run quietly and quickly, sad to have to leave their berry crops and small farms behind. Nyasa Town wasnt large and there were very few trainers capable of taking on this many people at once. Mom was the only truly powerful Pokà ©mon trainer that had ever been in Nyasa. I, along with Professor Oak, stepped up to become a lookout -keeping people moving forward, watching for any grunts that may find this secret tunnel- much to Moms worry. I lingered near the entrance of the tunnel, while Mom and a few other trainers led another group on. Roanoke: The Lost Colony Roanoke was the first attempt at creating an English settlement in the New World. It began in 1587 when Sir Walter Raleigh gathered over 100 people to voyage to Roanoke Island on North Carolina’s coast. Three years later, all of Roanoke’s inhabitants were gone with barely any evidence that they even lived there. On the nearby palisades, John white found the word â€Å"CROATOAN† carved into the surface. Before leaving, he told the villagers to leave clues as to their location should they have to leave the colony. White knew of an island called Croatoan south of Roanoke. A storm forced White and his men back to England before he could search for his family. Another clue as to where the colonists went is the fact that several of the natives in Croatoan describe their ancestors as white people. Later, there were natives found with gray eyes which were only found among these natives and no others. The natives also claim their ancestors came from â€Å"Roanoke in Virginia. † The Pembrokes, the natives of Croatoan, spoke pure Anglo-Saxon English and bore the last names of many of the lost colonists. The natives even had fair eyes, light hair, and Anglo bone structure. These clues all point to the colonists voyaging into Croatoan and making a settlement there. Apart from telling the colonists to leave Clues, White also told them to carve a Maltese cross above their destination. Because no cross was found at Roanoke, it leads me to believe the colonists had to leave in a hurry. There could have been a threat of invasion which gave the colonists little time to escape and leave clues to their whereabouts. While each of these characters’ creators came from incredibly different backgrounds from across the globe, they all share similar themes and explorations of what it means to be human. Before any of these people reach their great epiphany, they go through phases of extreme powerlessness that drive them into the mud. None of them achieve great power. None of them do anything particularly extraordinary. It is the mundaneness of their lives that makes the re ader intrigued, for the characters’ struggles may parallel their own. Good literature allows the reader to explore something unsavory, some embarrassing or heartbreaking facet of their existence, through the printed adventures of a novel. Corruption, while having a negative connotation, isn’t all that awful. It is defined as â€Å"dishonest or fraudulent conduct†¦ typically involving bribery.† A book is tempting, inviting, encouragingof an unsuspecting reader to pick it up and delve into its smooth pages. That expedition through corrupting powerlessness is what leaves the unexpecting reader a changed, more thoughtful, and even a tad more empathetic individual. Just like Hamlet, we often find ourselves lost and trapped. That pushes us to do crazy, uncharacteristic things. A lack of power, a lack of control, is what drives us to the edge—a far more profound, personal experience than simply being lavished in absolute power.
